Presentation
Hello everyone! My name's Carolina Ossandón and today I'm going to talk about "Polynesia", something very related to my career which is Antropología, because it is about culture.
We called Polynesia to the geopolitic way to refer of several islands distribuited over the Pacific Ocean. The name in Greek are "poli- nesos", wich means "many islands", so it's make sense. There are also exist Melanesia and Micronesia, other names for islands groups.
Paul Rivert is a french etnologist, who made the Oceanic Theory of American Settlement.
I have chosen this topic because when we talk about polinenses's cultures everything seems spectacular front our eyes, like if we were talking about a different world, something just in our imaginations but they actually exist. And also because I did love Vaiana's Movie (Moana in Spanish) and the clasic movie Lilo & Stich.
I'd like to divide my presentation into 2 parts. Firstly i will refer about what does it mean "polynesia" and why i think its important for anthropology. Secondly i'm going to show our most near example about it in Chile: Isla de Pascua.
